In an excerpt:
Duff was here to help launch Palm Beach Harvest's "Boca Blessings in a Backpack," the latest addition to a program begun by U.S.A. Harvest that gives meals to needy children. The launch was Thursday morning at the Boca Raton Elementary School.
In the afternoon, the actress of TV sitcom Lizzie McGuire fame, who is now an established pop singer, came to West Palm Beach to help feed the homeless. She dismissed recent controversy over the city's banning food distribution in downtown parks as a misunderstanding and spoke of the importance of providing for those who need it most.
"I have a lot of compassion for their situation," said Duff, 20. "Anyway, doing this kind of stuff is good for your soul. It makes you realize what you have in your life and makes you thankful."
Wearing a yellow top, denim shorts and sandals, Duff arrived just after a deluge soaked the region, her song Come Clean, with its apt refrain "Let the rain fall down," playing as she got to work.
