Our American Idol champ Carrie Underwood is nominated as the best new artist in the MTV Video Music Awards. The country singer is starting to get recognition in music industries outside country music.

Others nominated for the award are Amy Winehouse, Gym Class Heroes and Peter Bjorn & John.

Justin Timberlake and Beyonce lead the parade of nominees with seven nominations each.

The awards will be presented September 9th in Las Vegas.
